BMC Software Acquires Business Management Solutions Leader ITM Software
BMC’s purchase of ITM Software creates a unique, integrated solution that provides customers with a single comprehensive view.

BMC Software (NYSE: BMC) today announced that it has completed the acquisition of ITM Software.

BMC’s purchase of ITM Software creates a unique, integrated solution that provides customers with a single comprehensive view into project and service portfolios, financials, operations, resources, vendors, compliance and IT demand – all the applications that an IT organization needs to run itself as a true business unit.

The acquisition also strengthens BMC’s capabilities for IT business optimization, offering customers the ability to extract more value from traditional project management tools, asset data, service portfolios and IT budgets to drive decisions across the IT value chain, while ensuring good governance and continuous compliance.

“Companies’ reliance on technology has helped change the description of typical CIOs to business people first and technologists second. Business-savvy CIOs also place more demands on their organizations to provide them with business-focused information to influence or shape discussion and make better decisions,” wrote Dennis Gaughan, Research Director for AMR Research. “By providing visibility and control across [six critical management dimensions: strategy, demand, supply, people, money and risk], IT executives can make better decisions, provide a foundation for continuous improvement, and measure the value that IT delivers to the business.”1

With the increasing adoption of ITIL® V3, which focuses on maximizing IT value for the business and demands a service strategy approach, it is no longer sufficient for IT to run efficiently. It must run more effectively. The integrated BMC and ITM Software solutions address this challenge by enabling IT organizations to manage IT from the perspective of the business and with a comprehensive view and control over the business elements CIOs require.

“Organizations are demanding greater visibility and control of their most important assets including human capital, vendors, finances, services and projects,” said Jim Grant, senior vice president and general manager of BMC’s Enterprise Service Management organization. “By combining the approaches of BMC and ITM Software, customers will now have 100 percent visibility into IT spending and effectiveness versus the 20-25 percent view allowed by our competitors’ offerings.”
